About the Business
The Groomer
Kaitlyn has been grooming since 2020, starting in a structured corporate training program and building from there, through boutique salons, mobile grooming, and most recently a boarding, training, and grooming environment where she worked alongside professional trainers with anxious, reactive, senior, and medically complex dogs.
Her approach to grooming is behavior-informed and research-driven. Every product, technique, and policy decision is deliberate, informed by veterinary literature, hands-on experience, and a commitment to understanding why things work the way they do.
The Reason
Brogan came home anxious and cautious, carrying the kind of wariness that develops in animals who have learned the world isn't always predictable. A few months in, he was diagnosed with diabetes, which required prescription food, insulin, and blood glucose checks two to three times daily. His allergies were severe and resistant to most treatments. As his diabetes progressed, he developed glaucoma and lost his vision almost overnight, followed by the surgical removal of his right eye. Through all of it, he remained gentle and willing. Still wanting his walks, still curious about the world, just navigating it differently than before.
Grooming Brogan became its own kind of challenge. By the time he lost his sight, a grooming trip meant coaxing a blind, anxious dog down apartment stairs, through a car ride that he hated, and into an unfamiliar environment he hadn't memorized without sight. And by the time the actual groom started, with the noise and the water and the necessary handling, he was already so overwhelmed that even having someone he trusted completely doing the work wasn't enough to make it okay.
He never got the calm, low-stress grooming experience he deserved. He passed before the pieces were ever in place to give him one. But he fundamentally changed how Kaitlyn understood what grooming could and should feel like for a dog who is already carrying a lot. That's what this business is built around.
The Model
Grooming by Kaitlyn currently operates as an in-home service, bringing a full professional setup directly inside the client's home. This model was chosen deliberately. It eliminates kenneling, reduces environmental stress, and allows for completely one-on-one attention in a familiar environment without the distractions of a shared salon space. Every appointment is structured around the individual dog, not a production schedule.
The long-term goal is a dedicated space, whether a fully equipped van or a permanent facility, that maintains the same standard in a more controlled environment. In-home appointments will always remain available for dogs who genuinely do better in their own space. The format may evolve, but the approach will remain the same.
The Client
Grooming by Kaitlyn is built for dogs that don't do well in standard grooming environments: anxious dogs, reactive dogs, seniors, medically complex dogs, and dogs that have had enough difficult experiences to make grooming genuinely stressful. It is also built for the owners of those dogs; people who prioritize their dog's wellbeing over the aesthetic outcome, who ask questions, and who want to understand the reasoning behind the decisions being made during a groom.
If that sounds like you and your dog, this was built with you in mind.
